The arts have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Creativity drives passion. This is a weekly look into the world of artists in music, art and dance and what they create. Feed your imagination!
Canned Heat | Center Stage
Center Stage is a cult classic for any girl or guy that grew up as a ballet dancer. I have probably seen this movie upwards of twenty times and enjoy every tantalizing second of it. It is a true look into the wild world of dance companies. I myself have not had the pleasure to be part of a company as life took me in some different directions but I do have colleagues that took such a path. Amanda Schull does a fantastic job in the whole movie, including this memorable final scene. The red shoes!! Ugh. It’s so good… I can’t take it. I am also not ashamed at all to admit my friend Michelle and I learned all the dance moves to this when it came out and danced around the living room till we wore ourselves out. Jamiroquai features his hit “Canned Heat” in this performance. It fits well with the choreography. One of the best finales to a movie ever! I am partial to dance so this brings a big smile to my face.
Marilyn Manson | Fav Track: The Dope Show
“The Drugs they say make us feel so hollow. We love in vain narcissistic and so shallow.”
Remember back when MTV played music videos? What?! I know, hard to believe. I recall watching TRL (for anyone under 20 it’s Total Request Live hosted back in the day by Carson Daly). Marilyn Manson, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Britney Spears. The list goes on. Anyway, I have a ton of respect for Manson as an artist. He is an eclectic one. But I freakin love that about him. He does his thing. He talks about how insanely crazy pop culture and fame is. It’s a jungle out there. A high climb to infamy and a big fall. This music video is a masterpiece in itself as well. Videos had a charm then. His greatest hits album is still on my playlist and I’ll blast it any day of the week.
Found this awesome makeup artist on Instagram. That is the great thing about accessible social media these days, the amount of discovery of new artists happens every day. I took a liking to her work. Beetlejuice and Alice in Wonderland have some reoccurring themes in her IG feed. Love it. Vibrant colors, cool styles abound. She also does some kick ass shoe designs as well. Check out her work.
